Want to see some cuteness from our maternity photo shoot? Read on…
We are currently almost 34 weeks pregnant, so I thought I will give you all a little update on how the pregnancy is going now we are well and truly into the third trimester. We have also recently had a maternity photoshoot with the talented Chris Epworth . If you live in Bendigo or surrounds I highly recommend Chris if you want some beautiful natural family photos taken. He has an eye for capturing the happiness and playfulness in children as well as their personalities. I just love his work. We are also booked to have a family photoshoot when the baby is born, so I am really excited for that.
Little Goose is brewing extremely well. He is HUGE! and the placenta is massive and doing its job obviously. He is long and measuring in the 95th percentile. We have been told that he has lots of hair on the head . It is amazing what they can see on the scan. He is head down and placenta is right out of the way, which is opposite to Archer. With Archer, I had placenta previa, which is a low lying placenta across the cervix, blocking the baby from coming out naturally. Hence I had to have him by c-section. The position of the baby and the placenta also means we can have the baby close to home rather than travel to Melbourne which is a huge strain off our backs. Goose is very active, particularly of a night and keeping me awake, but there is not long to go.
Mentally I am in a good place now that we have the all clear with my brain and tumours. My Vision hasn’t deteriorated this time and has remained stable. Physically, other than being tired from broken sleep, I am feeling much better and have more energy than I did when I was pregnant with Archer. I had an iron infusion a couple of weeks ago which has made me feel like the Hulk the last couple of weeks. I haven’t had any hip pain for weeks and I really think it is due to my exercise program I am doing with my personal trainer. I really feel like I am enjoying the last trimester a bit better this time around.
I have packed on the fluid the last few weeks which has made my body baloon out big time. There is nothing I can do about this other than try and keep my fluids up and keep healthy. I am trying to elevate my legs when I can. I am not used to being so blown up, however it is comforting to know that the fluid should disappear quite quickly once Goose is born, like it did with Archer. It makes me feel a bit self conscious at times, particularly when I look at photos, however it is all part of the process and I just have to try and keep positive.
Like with Archer, my iron levels plummeted. I didn’t really notice it like I did with Archer. With Archer I had dizzy spells and extreme exhaustion, however that could have been the tumours too. This time around I haven’t been dizzy or too exhausted in third trimester. However since having the iron infusion, I have noticed a huge difference to my energy levels the last week or so.
Frequent toilet breaks
Well the head is down and I am always making trips to the loo several times a night. Enough said.
Archer is doing ok. I feel a bit for him at the moment and getting the ‘mummy guilt’ because I can’t lift him up as much and struggling to chase him around like I used to. However Cameron is pitching in when he can. I encourage Archer to come and sit on the couch with me or in the rocking chair for snuggles and books. I still have the energy to get up and down off the floor with him, but I am turning into a beached whale so it is getting more difficult. He is at a good age for the dogs and loves playing with them and they are loving the attention. We are also getting outside more now the weather is getting better. He enjoys riding his trike and playing in the sandpit. He has no idea about a baby being in Mummy’s tummy. He tries to body slam me and jump on me when he can. We have had to become quite strict there. Body slamming is for daddy at the moment
Exercise has been great for my mental health and makes me feel more in control over my body and its changing state. I have a personal trainer that comes for half an hour on a Monday to help with hip pain and strengthen my core and lower back. I then have to do the program 1-2 times during the week on my own. I have to say it is working wonders and worth every cent because my hip pain has gone. I wish I did this when I was pregnant with Archer. I also walk a lot incidentally still with Archer for daycare runs, going to the park and playgroup. Cameron is taking over the swimming next term which will be a nice break, but I am looking forward to getting back into the pool with Archer once I have recovered from birth.
My diet has been much the same as my second trimester post, however in smaller amounts. I struggle to eat a big meal now due to limited room in my stomach. Trying to cut down on the bread a bit to help with fluid retention, but otherwise, diet is still pretty healthy. Smoothies, lots of salads, vegetables and protein and the occasional chocolate treat! I have also got onto raspberry leaf tea which is rumoured to help with labour.
